José Alves Pereira

José is a leading figure in the area of Aviation, Insurance and International Arbitration and has considerable experience, inter alia, in aviation litigation, negotiation of fractional ownership rights, purchase and sale, leasing and security agreements of aircrafts and engines. He is also experienced in corporate and commercial matters.

He is an active member of the IBA Aviation Law Committee and is listed in the 2015 edition of “Euromoney’s Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Aviation Lawyers” and in “The International Who’s Who of Aviation Lawyers 2015”.

José is a former Area Coordinator for Portugal of the American Bar Association, an international arbitrator and special advisor of the American Arbitration Association and an international arbitrator of the ICC International Court of Arbitration. He is also a member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the International Centre for Dispute Resolution, The London Court of International Arbitration, the International Panel of Arbitrators of CPR (International Institute of Conflict Prevention and Resolution), the Club Español del Arbitraje, the Union Internationale des Avocats,

José was the founding member of the Portuguese Arbitration Association. From 1992 to 1998, he was the Vice President of the Executive Committee of the Portuguese Bar Association, as well as the country representative in the C.C.B.E..

In addition to his practice, José has published books, articles and studies (in Portuguese and English language) on several legal issues, including aviation and insurance law matters.

José is fluent in Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
