February Jurisdictional Update – Mexico
Update provided by Andrés Remis with Santamarina + Steta.
- Aeromar airlines shut down this week and bankruptcy proceedings will take place.
- New regulations are coming through as our aviation authorities try to regain category one grades with the FAA. The FAA downgraded Mexico to category two in terms of safety. Mexico has never been too long in that category, and our aviation authority is working on changing the grade.
- Congress is currently discussing the Mexican airspace security bill aiming to be a regulatory framework for the army to intercept aircraft and perform alternative actions to fight organized crime, narcotics, etc.
