João Marques de Almeida
João has a degree in Law by the Faculty of Law, Lusíada University of Lisbon (2002) and is admitted to the Portuguese Bar.
He is also a member of the Portuguese Arbitration Association.
João is a litigation specialist with considerable experience in aviation and insurance law matters (including aircraft accidents and incidents), acting for insurers and reinsurers, airline companies, airport operators and ground-handling service companies in civil, criminal and administrative proceedings. He also advises airline companies on regulatory matters.
João is a member of the Portuguese Arbitration Association and the International Bar Association (IBA). He also represents the firm in all meetings and venues of the European Air Law Association (EALA) and is ranked by Legal 500 as a “leading individual” for his work in the aviation sector.
In addition to his practice, João has published various articles and studies in different areas of the Law, including aviation and insurance matters. He is also the author of the Portuguese chapter on Air Transport of Getting the Deal Through 2010-2016, as well as an active contributor for the annual IATA Liability Reporter.
João focuses his practice on litigation, insurance and aviation law matters.
João is fluent in Portuguese, English, Italian and Spanish.
