Juan Carlos Machorro has been ranked the best aviation lawyer in Mexico by Chambers and Partners, Who’s Who and other publications.
Juan Carlos holds a law degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. He was admitted to practice law in March 1994, and holds postgraduate studies in International Business and Finance in New York University, 1997.
Juan Carlos joined Santamarina y Steta in September 1990 and became a partner in 2002. He had professional practice with Brown & Wood LLP (now Sidley LLP) in New York, NY in 1997-1998.
Juan Carlos’ professional practice is focused in general corporate and financial matters, with special emphasis on aviation and airport matters, where he has represented clients for more than two decades.
Juan Carlos’ experience in such field goes back to the long-standing representation of the Irish firm GPA in Mexico, being the main lessor and financier of the commercial fleet of Aeroméxico, Méxicana de Aviación, and the former TAESA, Líneas Aéreas Latur and AeroCalifornia.
For many years he has represented the interests of Rolls-Royce & Partners Finance Limited in engine financing transactions in Mexico, as well as financiers of the corporate aviation market in Mexico.
Representative clients in the corporate aircraft market represented by Juan Carlos include 1st Source Bank, The CIT Group/Equipment Financing, Inc., Raytheon Aircraft Credit Corporation, debis Financial Services, Cessna Finance Corporation, Bank of America, Deutsche Bank, GE Capital, Advent, Aero Records and Omnilife.
Juan Carlos has broad experience and expertise representing players involved in public tender and related processes. He acted as legal counsel for the Mexico City International Airport in the financing of Terminal 2, transaction that was awarded with the PPP Transaction of the Year 2005. He also represented the Federal Government in the recent bid called for a Greenfield airport project in Riviera Maya that is expected to be launched again in the near future.
Juan Carlos represents the interests of important companies in the industry such as EADS, Eurocopter, ATR, and counts on broad experience when tendering equipment and services to either the Federal or Local Governments.
