La decisión de la Federación Rusa de reconocer a las “oblasts” de Donetsk y Luhansk como repúblicas independientes de Ucrania, y la posterior invasión de este país por las fuerzas armadas rusas con el apoyo de Bielorrusia, ha generado un amplio rechazo en los países occidentales. Además de las medidas administrativas adoptadas y de las declaraciones de condena provenientes desde muy diversos sectores, entidades no gubernamentales como la UEFA, FIFA, IIHF, IHF, Euroleague Basketball y muchas otras han tomado acuerdos tendentes a excluir a entidades rusas y bielorrusas de sus respectivas actividades.

These are undoubtedly the most severe sanctions agreed against a state in recent times, as the European measures join those of many other countries, with the United States and the United Kingdom leading the way. Surely for the first time in history, economic weapons are being used to end a war as soon as possible.
