María Esther Fernández Alvarez de Pou is a partner at Fernández & Pou specialising in the areas of civil aviation, airports and ports.

Her experience encompasses a wide range of legal areas, making her a valuable asset to private sector clients seeking counsel on various legal matters within these sectors in the Dominican Republic.

Throughout her professional journey, de Pou has provided specialised consulting services to leading companies in civil aviation, airports and ports, as well as in maritime, corporate (including mergers and acquisitions), foreign investment, finance structuring, customs, tax, real estate law, agreements, concessions, privatisations and dispute resolution.

De Pou has not only advised companies in these sectors but has also represented the Dominican Republic before international bodies such as the Latin American Civil Aviation Commission and the International Civil Aviation Organisation. She has been a speaker at various conferences, both nationally and internationally, and has held various roles as a professor at national and international universities and institutions, specialising in arbitration and mediation.

In addition to her work in civil aviation and related fields, de Pou has extensive experience in maritime, corporate, and tax matters, including merger and acquisition transactions, financial structuring, concessions and privatisations. She possesses a comprehensive understanding of shipments, customs, negotiation, contracts, investment projects, administrative and regulatory law, real estate and litigation.

María Esther Fernández Alvarez de Pou is an arbitrator and judicial interpreter of the Santo Domingo Commerce and Production Chamber. She holds several key positions and memberships, including president of the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic’s Legal Committee, and membership in organisations such as the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, the Inter-American Bar Association and Latin American Association of Aeronautical and Space Law. She was also previously on the Board of Directors of the Institutionality and Justice Foundation.

She is also affiliated with international professional associations such as L2B Aviation and has received recognition from international ranking agencies of law firms and lawyers, including Chambers and Partners Latin American, Chambers and Partners Global, Latin Lawyer, The Legal 500 and the Vance Center’s Pro Bono Leading Lights, in various legal areas such as corporate, transportation, civil aviation, litigation and arbitration.

De Pou is a member of the L2B Aviation Group, which has received recognition from renowned publications and organisations for its excellence in areas including Aviation, Corporate, Litigation, and Arbitration. In 2015, she assumed the role of chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic’s Legal Committee (AMCHAMDR).
