February Jurisdictional Update – Uruguay

Update provided by Gonzalo Yelpo with Yelpo & Facal. The Corporación América Airports (CAAP) that handles all airports will be taking over the international airports (11). This will be financed through cross subsidies from Montevideo airport. This is certainly an issue for the international alliance because all costs are rising, and traffic is low.

February Jurisdictional Update – Ecuador

Update provided by Xavier Rosales of CorralRosales. Ecuador has entered into open sky agreements with different countries, such as the U.S., which is positive. Unfortunately, Ecuador has not formed local regulations or amendments to local regulations that will make this easier to implement, including how airlines may operate under an open sky agreement.

How airlines are feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic

During the February L2b member meeting, representatives shared their opinions regarding the aviation industry’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Although pandemic protective measures slowed in 2022, the aftershocks on the airline industry may not be felt for some time. The member roundtable did not discuss the effects in depth. Still, members shared timely and localized information that shed light on the current outcomes of airline operations post-pandemic.
